Because religion is laughable

Science of Religion

Science of Religion Cartoon

Science and religion are diametrically opposed: one places evidence before belief, the other places belief before evidence.  This difference is fundamental, and any talk of reconciling the two is just nonsense, as is illustrated by the very amusing Black Cat analogy:

Philosophy is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat. ...

Science is like being in a dark room looking for a black cat using a flashlight.

Theology is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn't there, and shouting "I found it!"

As long as one's reality is based on wish rather than evidence-based, rational conclusion, the truth of that reality will elude you, and you may as well believe in Santa or Bertand Russell's teapot.

Atheist Quote of the Day

"Religion is like having a classroom where the students have to show up every day, but there's no teacher. There are a bunch of books around and no one is even sure which on is the text book. Some students insist on one book; others argue just as hard for another. Then suddenly, on the last day, the teacher appears and says he's been watching everybody the whole time. He praises the ones who chose the right text book and sends them off to have cookies and milk.

And then he sets everyone else on fire."
